r Renz commented, “Back in 2005, we were considering having our own private medical clinic. It has been my dream to work with other doctors in a multi-disciplinary team in a primary care setting. Soon after the practice was established Johanna became pregnant with own first child - Johanna then had 10 years of public sector and hospital management experience and just completed executive business management training with the University of Cambridge. She was keen to stay connected with the world of work and the practice offered the flexibility needed for both of us to balance our work and child-care commitments. Johanna is what people these days call a mumpreneur; her contribution and our experience with raising our daughter has helped us understand what parents and young families need most… this is often a healthy pregnancy and baby and to get a good night’s rest!”
The couple started in 2005, while they were still working in the NHS and invested most of their profits back in to the business. Richmond Practice was developed without any start-up capital. The practice has grown from a single room at Roseneath Dental practice with a secretary taking appointments from home to a fully-fledged clinic with eight doctors including six consultant specialists and staff.
At first they only focussed on providing private GP services, but soon found that there was also a need for specialist care. German, French and American families are for example more used to seeing consultants for maternity care and with the medical problems babies and toddlers might experience. The couple incorporated this in to their model. Their next step was to invest in a scanner – it has no radiation risk and one can derive enormous diagnostic benefits from ultrasound. They recruited consultants who are also sonographers and a radiologist to allow for the scanners to be available to their specialists while they consult. This has proven so popular that the practice now has two scanners. There are Private GP’s, Consultant Paediatricians and Gynaecologists available at the practice 60 hours per week from where corporate care is also provided.
The years of hard work has paid off. The practice registered with the Care Quality Commission in January 2012 and received a glowing review. The Parent’s and Baby Directory in August 2012 recommended Richmond Practice as one of London’s top private health clinics with multi-lingual doctors.
