After the arrival of a little one many mums struggle to cope with the changes to their body. And while it may be tempting to lose weight as fast as possible, it is essential to make sure it is done in a safe and healthy way.
A sensible way in which mothers can regain their body confidence is through hypnotherapy. Now this doesn’t mean going into a trance and having someone telling you that you will wake up with a fit new body (sadly.) But instead, changing your ways of thinking, enabling you to improve your body.
Here, we have found some simple steps that can help you change your way of thinking to regain your body confidence.
Seeing is believing
The first step to regaining your body is in the preparation of your body and mind. To do this Hypnotherapy and Meditation expert, Victoria Wills, suggests visualising what you want to achieve. Here she explains:
Once your little one is sleeping, find somewhere comfortable to sit or lie down and picture yourself as you would like to look, this might be back to the weight you were before you became pregnant or maybe the figure you have always dreamt of. Really focus on the details... what are you wearing, what are you doing, are you alone or with people, do you look happy and confident? Make the picture really come alive and enjoy seeing the future you looking great. Realise that this person is you, you are on a journey to reach your goal and every step on that journey needs to support your aim.
By doing this visualisation every day you will be motivated to resume healthy eating and exercise. Your goal will then become tangible as your subconscious mind knows exactly where you want to be and your aims are in reach.
Confidence is key
Another major factor in getting your perfect body after pregnancy is regaining your confidence. Many mums lose confidence during pregnancy, so after your birth, it is important not to be too hard on yourself. Your body has undergone a major event, so it is only natural to feel shy or embarrassed about the way you look. Victoria advises to regain your confidence you should stop listening to the negative voices inside your head and replace them with positive ones. Here she says:
When you hear a voice condemning your appearance, note how it makes you feel and how it points out your flabby bits. If the voice sounds like your own, start giving it a funny sound. Add a high-pitched squeal or a snort, something that makes the voice sound ridiculous or makes you giggle. Next work on your positive voice. Create a confident, self-assured tone that is a heightened version of you. Every time you hear the negative voice in your mind, turn it into the funny voice that you cannot take seriously, and introduce your supportive voice, which is dominant and confident. Listen to this voice telling you how great you look!
Energy boost
Keeping up energy levels can be a struggle for mums as they adapt to their new life with their baby. To combat fatigue and boost your energy levels throughout the day, Victoria recommends this simple 2minute exercise:
Close your eyes and picture a shaft of bright white light passing in through the top of your head, all the way through your body and out of the soles of your feet and the palms of your hand. Allow the bright white light to blast away any tension or tiredness; let it fill you with energy and power. When you feel you have had enough and are feeling great. Just allow the light to stop, open your eyes and carry on with your day feeling great.
Routine is everything
The final step to your perfect body is routine. This is vital for both you and your baby. Whilst your baby is napping, it is important to make sure you take some ‘me’ time. To start with, this can be by simply introducing some light exercise into your day. Victoria suggests using household objects to build up a 15minute simple routine:
Tinned cans can act as weights for bicep curls, the bottom two steps of your staircase can act as your own stepper machine. Making an effort to actively implement this short routine will liven you up for when your little one resurfaces.
By exercising little and often you will get short, sharp boosts of energy to make you feel good and help you get through the tiring day.
